In Psalms, chapter thirty-one, verses one through twenty-four, this psalm is a personal prayer expressing distress and lament because of enemies, as in verses four and eight, illness, in verses nine to ten, and desertion of friends, as in verses eleven to thirteen. Jeremiah used a phrase from this psalm from verse thirteen to express his sorrow and fear, as in Jeremiah six, verse twenty-five, and chapter twenty, verse ten. Jesus also quoted from it with the opening words of verse five while on the cross, as in Luke twenty-three, verse forty-six. This prayer expresses the heartfelt cry of all believers who suffer affliction because of illness, trouble, or oppression from the world or the enemies of righteousness: it reveals that in times of deep trouble, we can hide in the secret of thy presence,” as in verse twenty.
The chapter under the My Times are in Thy Hand section depicts the psalmist’s endeavor to rely on God to overcome the devil’s schemes. Since God honors His Word above His name, believers must use the holy scriptures to counteract the enemy’s plan. In Matthew four of the New Testament, the Son of God used the Words of scripture to resist the temptation of the devil in the wilderness. Jesus, in Matthew four, uses verses four, seven, and ten to respond to the offer from the devil in verses three, six, and nine. The enemy cannot stand the Word of God, especially if quoted openly speaking it out against him.
To receive deliverance begins with a Word. If a person is experiencing some form of sickness, it will take the Word of God to bring it out. At the same time, positive words to recover. The mistake many people make, whether unbelievers or believers, is owning some illness that does not belong to them. “Oh, I am taking care of my ammonia,” for example. The person was not born with it because these illnesses come from the pit of hell.
Deliverance is a word from our mouths if we reach out to God in faith and do not allow anyone to pull us down with negative talk. If they do, do not accept it but reject it. Even if they reply, “Look at you, you are blank condition, can’t you see that?” The response is, “No, I am delivered.” They may not understand, but if we believe in God and what His Word says, we shall speak according to the Word of God. What they see, what you think, expect, and be as though you are, you shall receive. God is in control, not people, but Him.
