consume them in wrath

In Psalms, chapter fifty-nine, verse thirteen is the theme verse under the Triumph over Enemies section. However, in the first twelve verses, the psalmist asks God for deliverance from their enemies: defend and deliver from workers of iniquity who wait to make mischief against believers who desire to serve God.

The theme verse is “Consume them in wrath, consume them, that they may not be: and let them know that God ruleth in Jacob unto the ends of the earth.” These are the people in Psalms fifty-nine, verse four, “They run and prepare themselves without my fault: awake to help me, and behold.” Then, in verse six, “They return at evening: they make a noise like a dog, and go round about the city.”

Today, believers who serve God in Spirit and truth may encounter the ungodly who will find a fault in little things as an excuse to make some form of confrontation to force retaliation to create a reason to commit evil. However, saints of God must remember they are not fighting flesh and blood as in Ephesians six, verse twelve. “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”

Believers should pray against the spirit within the person attempting to carry out the enemy’s agenda.

In Psalms, thirty-five are verses under the A Plea for Judgment section, with examples of prayer as in verse one, “Plead my cause, O LORD, with them that strive with me: fight against them that fight against me.” In verse four, “Let them be confounded and put to shame that seek after my soul: let them be turned back and brought to confusion that devise my hurt.” Remember, we must love the sinner but hate the sin. However, if they do not turn from their wicked ways, it is a sin that causes ruin.
