In First Kings, chapter five, verse five, begins the preparation to build the temple: Chapters five to eight record the steps taken to assemble this place where God would continuously manifest His presence and glory. The temple was a dwelling place for God and the people to gather and worship Him. It was constructed in Jerusalem on Mount Moriah, as mentioned in Genesis twenty-two, verse two, and Second Chronicles three, verse one, respectively. The building took seven years to complete. God gave David the plans for the temple through the revelation of the Holy Spirit, as in the First Chronicles twenty-eight, verse twelve, where David provided many of the resources before he died.
King David desired to build it, but through his sin with Bathsheba, God did not allow him. If the Lord granted the request to David, some might remember the builder instead of focusing on the purpose. However, one of the sons of King David, Solomon, was the recipient of carrying out the construction of the temple. Therefore, the father of Solomon made the preparations while the son did the operation. Despite the chance of potential for setbacks, God makes all things work together for good.
There is no adversary, no Satan. So the word is no instrument of Satan to oppose or divert from it. Satan does all he can to hinder temple work. When there is no evil abroad, let us be ready and active in that which is good, and get forward. Let God’s promises quicken our endeavors.
Today, believers should make all outward skills and advantages serviceable to the interests of Christ’s kingdom. In this manner, by the wise disposal of Providence, one country requires another and is benefitted by another, that there may be dependence on one another, to the glory of God. Ezekiel twenty-seven, verses seventeen through thirty-six, shows the example.
