In Exodus chapter sixteen, verse four, God said to Moses that He would rain bread from heaven and that the people should gather a portion every day to prove whether they walk in His law.
The bread from heaven is called “manna.” A distinctive food miraculously sent from God to feed the people after the exodus from Egypt. It was a white substance that resembled frost, took the form of thin flakes, and tasted like honey. The supply of manna ceased when the Israelites entered the promised land, and other food became available. Manna was a type of foreshadowing of Jesus Christ, who “the true bread from heaven” gives eternal life.
The people had exact instructions about the bread from heaven to test their willingness to trust and obey God. In the same way, God sometimes orders the circumstances of our lives to test our faith and loyalty to Him. To see where our heart lies. We either are with Him or without and with the world. Similar to a relationship with our family and spouse. They will have a “prove me test” to see if we are still together with them or not.
Today, the “bread from heaven” is the spiritual part of our being that needs daily nourishment from the Word of God. The reading part is supposed to be the easy part as we go through the scriptures within the Bible. However, some do not want to spend time studying God’s Word. This situation is like getting actual bread where many taste it and eat it but have trouble digesting it. Potential believers try to understand God’s Word but inwardly do not have the patience to allow the Word of God to sink in.
Bread from heaven is a daily relationship that develops over time that requires a little effort on our part to make it work. Everyone on the team does their part to prove or improve themselves.
