In Psalms, chapter hundred and nineteen, verses one through hundred and seventy-six, expresses a majestic love for God’s written Word. It deals with the Word as a promise, commandment, guide, testimony, teaching, wisdom, truth, righteousness, and reproof. It presents as the psalmist’s comfort, protection, treasure, rule for life, delight to his heart and soul, and resource for all his needs. The psalmist expresses a profound love for God by reading, meditating, and praying over the Word. He teaches us that we will grow in grace and righteousness as love for that Word increases.
The psalm is called an alphabetical acrostic because of its twenty-two stanzas or paragraphs of eight verses. Each stanza corresponds to the twenty-two letters of the Hebrew alphabet. Each verse in the paragraphs begins with the letter characteristic of its stanza. ALEPH is one, BETH is two, GIMEL is three, DALETH is four, HE is five, VAU is six, ZAIN is seven, CHETH is eight, TETH is nine, JOD is ten, CAPH is eleven. Next is LAMED for twelve, MEM is thirteen, NUN is fourteen, SAMECH is fifteen, AIN is sixteen, PE is seventeen, TZADDI is eighteen, KOPH is nineteen, RESH is twenty, SCHIN is twenty-one, and TAU is twenty-two, respectively.
The theme chapter begins with the title, “Blessed are the undefiled in the way, who walk in the law of the Lord.” However, spotless or innocent followers of Christ have kept themselves out of the enemy’s camp. The devil attempts to put a spot on the life of believers. Deception is his chief means of creating sin against Christians to disconnect them from God. Therefore, the emphasis on reading and meditating on God’s Word is crucial in the lives of His people. Reading aloud to yourself in your place is powerful, and Satan doesn’t like that.
