In Proverbs, chapter thirty, verse six, “Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar.” The established Word of God must not be mixed with human ideas and speculations, such as those found in worldly philosophy, psychology, sorcery, and spiritism. God’s revealed truth is fully adequate to meet the spiritual needs of humankind. Those who teach that something must be added to Biblical truth to fulfill our lives in Christ are liars, as in Revelation twenty-two, verse eighteen, “For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book.”
No additional human wisdom, technique, or theory is needed to complete the sufficiency of God’s Word that reveals our perfect salvation in Christ. The words of Jesus, the New Testament apostolic faith, and the grace of God were capable in the early days of the church to meet the needs of the lost and are capable today. Absolutely nothing can offer more height, depth, strength, and help than what Jesus Himself proclaimed and provided, and what the apostles testified to in the biblical revelation. “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me, as in John fourteen, verse six. If the gospel we hold is found wanting in these days, it is because our gospel is something less than the gospel of Christ and the apostles.
Those who attempt to change the Word of God to suit their needs and goals, and not for the sake of saving and delivering, will fall into the hands of the living God and have to deal with Him.
