In Genesis chapter eighteen, verse twenty-two, Abraham stood before the Lord. Why? Out of concern for Lot and his relatives, Abraham prayed that God would not destroy the cities. God did answer his prayer, though not in the way he expected.
God did not destroy the righteous with the wicked. He saved the righteous while eliminating the guilty.
In society, we all have addressed concerns for families and should intervene on their behalf through prayer. Believers serve a big mighty God in a big way that will hear their petition and act accordingly. God answers our prayer but not precisely as we have planned in the past. However, He does deliver for our good because of His thoughts and not our thought. Some of the results are surprising because they did not reach our expectations.
Abraham was for the people because he did understand where they were coming from, yet he stood before God to represent them on their behalf. Abraham knew they lacked knowledge and were careless at times, but the people did not know better. Or did they? Abraham can relate to them from their perspective because he had been there. Therefore, Abraham was for the people and desired to bridge the gap between God and His people.
In Genesis chapter eighteen, verse seventeen, the Lord asks a question. “shall I hide from Abraham the thing which I do?” The sin of the people that Abraham dealt with is very grievous. God knew the people would not be satisfied and got Him very angry.
God also knew the intentions of Abraham. He knew he would speak on behalf of his people.
God does not overlook sin. He sees every evil, injustice, and immorality that the people committed, God will and condemn. The very nature of God requires that wickedness be punished.
