In Isaiah, chapter five, verses one through seven, “My wellbeloved hath a vineyard in a very fruitful hill: And he fenced it, and gathered out the stones thereof, and planted it with the choicest vine, and built a tower in the midst of it, and also made a winepress therein: and He looked that it should bring forth grapes, and it brought forth wild grapes. What could have been done more to my vineyard, that I have not done in it? Wherefore, when I looked that it should bring forth grapes, brought it forth wild grapes?
The song of the vineyard demonstrates that God did everything possible to make Judah a righteous and fruitful nation. Only after they had turned away completely from their covenant with God to idolatry and abominable evil did God destroy His vineyard.
The parable of the vineyard is the section for this theme, and “A vineyard” is the title. However, the theme reminds us of the Garden of Eden, as in Genesis two, verse eight, “And the LORD God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there He put the man whom He had formed.” God gave Adam and Eve trees for food and command over the animals He made in the Garden of Eden. All they needed to do was to live for God by His Word and keep it. However, the vineyard brought forth wild grapes, and Adam and Eve failed to follow God’s command.
Today, the situation remains the same. God made us in His own image, and all we have to do is keep His Word. Instead, some have turned to idols, abominable evil, and other ungodly ways, which are the broadway that leads to destruction. However, there are still some who follow the straight and narrow that leads to life.
