In Proverbs, chapter nineteen, verse fourteen, when seeking a marriage partner, prudence is more important than appearance. God’s wisdom, guidance, and blessing are essential to have a happy marriage. A believer should seek to marry someone deeply committed to the Lord Jesus, His Word, and the standards of the kingdom. Marriage to a person of godly character is a special blessing of God, as in chapter eighteen, verse twenty-two, and Genesis twenty-four, verse fourteen. To enter into a marriage without His guidance is to invite suffering, regret, and disaster.
A prudent wife is from the Lord is the title that is from the latter part of this theme verse. Prudent means wise, sensible, which is related to prudence that involves using caution. God is all-knowing and can provide a mate for the man who desires to wed a woman of godly character from Him. Proverbs eight, verse twelve, declares, “I wisdom dwell with prudence, and find out knowledge of witty inventions.” God will equip the wife who has God first in her heart before her husband with these godly qualities.
Being Prudent gives the wife or anyone who asks for this from God the ability to be effective in all matters, as in First Samuel, sixteen, verse eighteen. The prudent one will overcome shame, concealeth, and dealeth with knowledge, as in verses sixteen, twenty-three, of Proverbs twelve, and Proverbs thirteen, verse sixteen, respectively. “The wisdom of the prudent is to understand his way,” as in the first part of Proverbs fourteen, verse eight.” The simple believeth every word: but the prudent man looketh well to his going,” as in verse fifteen. God will provide the wife with these experiences for the husband to be if he will ask the Lord in sincerity, and desires to serve the Lord in obedience.
Who is wise, and he shall understand these things? Prudent, and he shall know them? For the ways of the LORD are right, and the just shall walk in them: but the transgressors shall fall therein: Hosea fourteen, verse nine.
