In Psalms, chapter sixty-eight, verse five, God’s fatherhood for the believer emphasizes the Old and New Testaments. God delights in protecting the weak, disadvantaged, wronged, and lonely among His people. Ask God to put you under His special care and protection if you feel alone. Jesus had compassion for the widow in Luke seven, verse thirteen. His grace and mercy show that God has a special love and care for widows who are left alone in this world.
Scripture teaches the following: God is a Father to the fatherless and a defender of widows. They are under His special care and protection, as in Exodus twenty-two, verses twenty-two to twenty-three, Deuteronomy ten, verse eighteen, Psalms one hundred and forty-six, verse nine, and Proverbs fifteen, verse twenty-five, accordingly. Using the tithe and the abundance of His people, God provides for the fatherless and the widows, as in Deuteronomy fourteen, twenty-eight through twenty-nine, chapter twenty-four, verses nineteen to twenty-one, chapter twenty-six, verses twelve to thirteen. He blesses those who help and honors them, as in Isaiah one, verses seventeen to nineteen, Jeremiah seven, verses six through seven, and chapter twenty-two, verses three to four. He is against those who take advantage of or hurt widows or orphans, as in Exodus twenty-two, verses twenty-two through twenty-four, Deuteronomy twenty-four, verse seventeen, chapter twenty-seven, verse nineteen, Job twenty-four, verse three, Psalms ninety-four, verses six and sixteen, and Zechariah seven, verse ten.
The recipients are widows of God’s tender love and compassion, as in Luke seven, verses eleven through seventeen, chapter eighteen, verses two through eight, chapter twenty-one, verses two through four, and Mark twelve, verses forty-two to forty-three. The early church prioritized caretaking of widows, as in Acts six, verses one through six. One aspect of true faith is to look after orphans and widows in their distress, as in James one, verse twenty-seven, and First Timothy five, verses three to eight.
