I am…thine inheritance

In Numbers, chapter eighteen, verse twenty, the priests and Levites were to have no earthly inheritance, for God was their portion and inheritance. In principle, this promise extends to all believers in Christ. Our legacy is not on this earth, for we are but strangers and pilgrims. We must seek heavenly things, for God dwells in heaven. Our witness is this: “The Lord is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in Him” from Lamentations three twenty-four.
The Lord spoke to Aaron concerning the tribe of Levi, at the head of which he is, was about maintenance. When they came to the land of Israel to possess it, any part of the land divided by lot had no peculiar assignment to them. The other tribes, fields, and vineyards had cities appointed them, houses and grounds devoted to the Lord which fell to them, and others they had by gift or legacy or by purchase. The tribe of Levi had no share in the distribution of the land of Canaan.
The tribe of Levi receives a warning not to take it. A son of Levi that takes any part of the spoil would receive discipline. However, the spoil of other lands, subdued by the kings of Israel, they might take, as other Israelites did. The reason was that they had a sufficient provision for them in another way that might not entangle in worldly affairs. Neither spends their time in the culture of fields and vineyards. However, wholly give themselves to the service of God in his house.
In things temporal, the offerings, tithes, first fruits were given to the Lord which bestowed upon them; and in things spiritual, they being employed in the work and service of God and having a peculiar nearness to him, and communion with him. Still, all that are made priests unto God, as all believers in Christ are, have Him for their portion and inheritance.
Today, God provides for the people He has leading the flock. As long as they focus on the heavenly things, He continues to provide for His people miraculously.
