In Exodus chapter six, verse three, the Lord did not make himself known to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob by the name “Lord.” Although these men did not refer to God as Lord does not mean that the patriarchs were not acquainted with that name, but only that they did not receive the whole revelation of the meaning of that name. They had indeed used and heard God’s name as Yahweh, but they had known Him in their experience more as “God Almighty,” a name that emphasizes His power to perform or fulfill what He has promised. Yahweh is His covenant-keeping name, centered on redemption. Abraham did not live to see the covenant of Genesis chapter fifteen fulfilled but did experience the power of God.
Today, believers know God has a list of names that they can refer to, but God knows His people, and children of God know Him. Yahweh is widely popular with saints, known as the self-existing one. He has always existed and will always exist. Jehovah is the other well-known name the people of God use to call and pray: they believe God hears them when they call. Believers can always rely on God because He is the eternal source of strength. Adonai is another. He is the Lord over all: the King of kings and the Lord of lords who reigns forever. The other following names of God either use Yahweh or Jehovah in combo with these names.
Jehovah or Yahweh – Maccadeshem, the Lord our sanctifier. He forgiveness sins, and His Holy Spirit works in the believer to become like He is: pure, loving, and truthful. Jehovah or Yahweh – Rohi the Lord, my shepherd. He cares for His people the way a shepherd tends his sheep. Jehovah or Yahweh – Shammah, the Lord who is present: He never leaves nor forsakes His people. God is with us forever. Your best friend, who never betrays us.
The are other notable names God carries. Jehovah or Yahweh Rapha, the Lord, our healer. Jehovah or Yahweh Tsidkenu, the Lord our righteousness. Jehovah or Yahweh Jireh, the Lord will provide. Jehovah or Yahweh Nissi, the Lord our banner. Jehovah or Yahweh Shalom, the Lord our peace, is a favorite among the saints.
There are other names. However, here are a few more names common among the people of God, such as Elohim. God is the creator, powerful and mighty, Lord, of lords. El-Elyon, the highest God. El-Gibhor, mighty God. El-Olam, The everlasting God. El-Roi is the strong one who sees. Finally, El-Shaddai is God Almighty.
The names of God are significant. Whatever name a believer uses and often refers to Him by name, be sure He will come to that person in that manner.
