The Lord’s Prayer. The most famous prayer in the Holy Book. What does this prayer mean? First of all, prayer involves the worship of the heavenly Father. As the Father, God loves and cares for us. He welcomes our fellowship and intimacy. Through Christ, we have access to Him at any time to worship and communicate our needs to Him. God as Father does not mean that He is like an earthly father who tolerates evil in His children or fails to discipline them correctly. God is a Father of holiness who must oppose sin. He will not condone evil, even in those who name Him as Father. Our heavenly Father can punish as or bless, withhold or give, act with justice as well as mercy. How he responds to His children depends on our faith in and obedience to Him.
The concern in our prayers and our lives should be hallowing of the name of the Lord. It is of the utmost importance that God Himself be reverenced, glorified, and exalted.
Prayer is concerned with the kingdom of God on earth now and with its ultimate fulfillment in the future. We must pray for Christ’s return and the establishment of God’s eternal kingdom. The spiritual presence and the manifestation of the kingdom of God include asserting God’s power among His people.
“Thy will be done” is we sincerely desire God’s will and purpose to fulfill within our lives and the lives of our families according to His eternal plan. The daily bread is about requests concerning with individual’s daily needs. Forgive as we forgive concerning sins and the willingness to forgive. Delivering us from evil is deliverance from the enemy’s power and schemes. If we forgive not, fellow believers will have to overcome the offenses of others for God to forgive us.
Therefore when we pray the Lord’s prayer, let us keep in mind these things.
