In Jeremiah, chapter fifteen, verse sixteen, “Thy words were found, and I did eat them: and thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart: for I am called by thy name, O Lord of hosts.” Jeremiah differed from the people in two fundamental ways. He loved the word of the Lord; it was a joy and delight to his heart. One sure sign that we are the children of God is an intense love for the inspired Word of God. He remained separated from the sinful actions of the wicked, as in verse seventeen, “I sat not in the assembly of the mockers, nor rejoiced; I sat alone because of thy hand: for thou hast filled me with indignation.” The resulting experience of isolation and loneliness was the price he had to pay for loyalty to God and His righteousness, as in Psalm twenty-six, verses three to five.
“For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of thoughts and intents of the heart,” as in Hebrews four, verse twelve.
The Word of God cleanses, leads, and directs the lives of those people who have accepted the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ by believing, trusting, and obeying these scriptures. However, there are people today who say they believe and receive salvation, but do not often read or abide in God’s Word. Instead, they rely on the leader or preacher of the church they attend. All believers must know God for themselves and have a personal relationship with Him. Many people know about Him but do not know Him personally.
If people love God’s Word, they would have experienced Jeremiah’s situation.
