In Jeremiah, chapter five, verse ten, “Go ye up upon her walls, and destroy; but make not a full end: take away her battlements; for they are not the LORD’s.” The people professed to be the Lord’s, as in chapter three, verse four, “Wilt thou not from this time cry unto me, My father, thou art the guide of my youth?” However, God testified that they were not His people. Likewise, anyone who claims to be a born-again believer, yet is given over to the sins described in this chapter (lying, dishonesty, and adultery), does not belong to the Lord; like many in Judah, such people have been deceived into believing that their unfaithfulness to God will not bring His ultimate condemnation.
Multitudes are ruined by believing that God will not be so strict as his word says he will; by this artifice, Satan undid mankind. Sinners are not willing to own anything to be God’s word, that tends to part them from, or to disquiet them in, their sins. Mocking and misusing the Lord’s messengers filled the measure of their iniquity. God can bring trouble upon us from places and causes very remote. He has mercy in store for his people. Therefore, will set bounds to this desolating judgment.
“Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; as in First Timothy four, verse one. There was a leader in the church who shared a true story of what happened to a new convert recently. A young lady lost her mother to some illness, and received strength from the Lord, and was going to the church where her mother attended. However, she visited another church, and a member in that sanctuary told her a lie about her mother’s death, which made the lady immediately disconnect from that church and was never seen again.
All this for what? The women from that church told that young lady a lie, and she believed it without question. See how much a church-goer can do wrong in a person’s life and still attend church without any care?
