Woe to them

In Isaiah, chapter thirty-one, verse one, “Woe to them that go down to Egypt for help; and stay on horses, and trust in chariots, because they are many; and in horsemen, because they are very strong; but they look not unto the Holy One of Israel, neither seek the LORD!” Isaiah pronounces a woe upon the evildoers, as in verse two, who were trusting in Egypt’s horses and chariots rather than in the Lord, as in Deuteronomy seventeen, verse six, “But he shall not multiply horses to himself, nor cause the people to return to Egypt, to the end that he should multiply horses: forasmuch as the LORD hath said unto you, Ye shall henceforth return no more that way.”
Believers today must be careful not to commit the same sin as Judah; we must put our faith in God, revere His commandments, and seek Him daily for His grace and help in all our needs, as in Hebrews four, verse sixteen. “Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.” Because Christ sympathizes with our weaknesses, we can approach the heavenly throne, knowing that our prayers and petitions are welcomed and desired by our heavenly Father. It is called the throne of grace because from it flow God’s love, help, mercy, forgiveness, wisdom, spiritual power, spiritual gifts, the fruit of the Holy Spirit, and all we need in any circumstances. One of the greatest blessings of salvation is that Christ is now our high priest and mediator, who opens the way for us to come to the Father with confidence, for all areas of need in our lives. For Romans eight, verse thirty-one, says, “If God be for us, who can be against us?”
