Seraphims

In Isaiah, chapter six, verse two, “Above it stood the seraphims: each one had six wings; with twain he covered his face, and with twain he covered his feet, and with twain he did fly.” These are angelic beings of high order; “seraphims” may be another designation for the living creatures revealed elsewhere in scripture, as in Revelation four, verses six to nine. “And before the throne there was a sea of glass like unto crystal: and in the midst of the throne, and round about the throne, were four beasts full of eyes before and behind. And the first beast was like a lion, and the second beast like a calf, and the third beast had a face as a man, and the fourth beast was like a flying eagle. And the four beasts had each of them six wings about him; and they were full of eyes within: and they rest not day and night, saying, Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, which was, and is, and is to come. And when those beasts give glory and honour and thanks to him that sat on the throne, who liveth for ever and ever.
These four beasts and their faces may represent the entire living creation. All of God’s living creatures will bring glory and honour to Him in heaven and be redeemed from the curse of sin.
The “seraphims” title is literally called “burning ones” which may signify their purity as those who serve God around His throne; they so reflected the glory of God that they seemed to be on fire. This example confirms for the saints of God the significance of living in holiness and purity before the Lord. “Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God,” as in Matthew five, verse eight.
