In Ecclesiastes, chapter eleven, verse nine, “Rejoice, O young man, in thy youth; and let thy heart cheer thee in the days of thy youth, and walk in the ways of thine heart, and in the sight of thine eyes: but know thou, that for all these things God will bring thee into judgment.” God wants His people to rejoice and young people to enjoy their youth. But all such rejoicing must be tempered with the recognition that God holds us accountable for our immoral actions. If we allow our lives to degenerate into superficial levity and the enjoyment of sinful things, the result will be trouble and suffering in this life and judgment in the next stage.
The theme under “The investment of a life” section begins with how we live before God. “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God,” as in Romans three, verse twenty-three. However, most children from childhood until their teenage years know the difference between right and wrong, good and evil. The Tree of the Knowledge was revealed through the sin of Adam and Eve when they ate the fruit, as in the first part of Genesis two, verse seventeen, “But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it.” God never wanted them to do that because He told them specifically not to touch it, or they would surely die. Since God does not know sin, He does not associate with it. That is why when Jesus Christ died on the cross, He alone bore the sin of humanity so God’s creation could receive salvation through His Son and be able to have access to Him. Therefore, when people receive salvation upon accepting Jesus, believers refer to God as their Heavenly Father.
