In Ecclesiastes, chapter four, verses nine through twelve, “Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour. For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow: but woe to him that is alone when he falleth; for he hath not another to help him up. Again, if two lie together, then they have heat, but how can one be warm alone? And if one prevails against him, two shall withstand him; and a threefold cord is not quickly broken.”
The theme title “Two are better than one” is defined as “twice as good,” and is double trouble for those opposing. For believers, here is a spiritual example beginning with Matthew eighteen, verse twenty. “For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.” This verse is often quoted by believers when they pray together to overcome a situation that involves the evil one. One is single, but two is double.
Another instance is marriage. “Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.” Mark ten, verse nine, declares, “What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.” Two is companionship, which is a strength that can absorb more and is not removed.
Two people who are in a relationship can improve as a couple. Two provides stability and can produce more than one, as in verse one of this theme. The most effective is with two parents instead of one. Many children suffer in different ways when both parents are not fully involved in the lives of their kids. The children miss something and are not complete as they should be, as they grow from children to young adults.
