Commit thy works unto the Lord

In Proverbs, chapter sixteen, verse three, “Commit thy works unto the LORD, and thy thoughts shall be established.” Believers should not undertake anything presumptuously but in all things search for the Lord’s will, as in James four, verse fifteen through sixteen. The people of God should approach future endeavors in a godly manner. “For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that.” If our works and motives are right, then we can commit them to the Lord and be assured that He will establish them and bless us.

To commit our work is to accept and ask Him to intervene, as in Proverbs three, verse six, “In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” Whatever plans, projects, or efforts to help others will require the right approach and direction. For believers, their reliance should be on God Himself, and not on self. Their thoughts and cry unto Him should be as in Psalm ninety, verses sixteen to seventeen, “Let thy work appear unto thy servants, and thy glory unto their children. And let the beauty of the LORD our God be upon us: and establish thou the work of our hands upon us; yea, the work of our hands establish thou it.”

Our work is the activity. For believers, when we hear about works, it is usually accompanied by faith. “Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only,” as in James two, verse twenty-four. Many successful people do not hesitate or think twice; they picture themselves already there mentally and follow through physically. In verse twenty-five, “Likewise, also was not Rahab the harlot justified by works, when she had received the messengers, and had sent them out another way?
