In Proverbs, chapter two, verse three, the study of God’s Word should be backed by prayer that cries out for wisdom and discernment. Studying alone may make a Bible scholar, but praying while examining God’s Word allows the Holy Spirit to take that revelation and transform us into spiritual people who know God’s character and ways. Pray over the verses of scripture you read, hungering for wisdom, revelation, and spiritual understanding, as in verses five through seven of this theme chapter.
The theme verse, “Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding.” Do believers desire to seek God to know Him and His Word through the Holy Spirit? Are the people of God crying out to the Lord for wisdom? Do followers of Christ have the passion to draw nigh to the Son of God? These are some of the questions Christians have to ask before they approach the Almighty One.
Today, so many people say they know God, yet most only know to ask Him for this and for that. However, does anybody ask the Lord what He wants from them? A pastor in a church service revealed what the Lord said to Him during His message to the congregation. “Many people ask me what they want, but they never ask me what I want.” All the pastor could do was respond by saying, “Forgive us, Lord,” although he did not ask anything from God but only to know Him more.
In First Corinthians three, verses nineteen, twenty-one, and twenty-three, respectively, “For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, He taketh the wise in their own craftiness. Therefore let no man glory in men. For all things are yours. And ye are Christ’s, and Christ is God’s.” Amen.
