In Proverbs, chapter two, verse one, only by putting God’s Word into our minds will we learn to live wisely and righteously in our relationship with God, as in verse five of this theme chapter. We can become victorious over sin with God’s commandments in our hearts, as in Psalm hundred nineteen, verse eleven, and Christ’s words abiding within us, as in John fifteen, verse seven, and James one, verse twenty-one.
The theme verse, “My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee.” Many hearers hear God’s Word through His servants, but few receive it. How do we receive the Word of God? In First Thessalonians two, verse thirteen, “For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe.”
The title theme, “Hide my commandments with thee,” means keeping His Word that honors God through His servants. “But the Word of the Lord endureth forever. And this is the Word which by the gospel is preached unto you,” as in First Peter one, verse twenty-five. Therefore, if the Word of God remains with the believers as they read, study, obey, and live, it will direct their way. In Psalms hundred and nineteen, verse hundred and five, “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.”
On the other hand, those who hide and keep God’s Word, along with daily prayer, praise, and worship of the Lord, will have strength. “My son, walk not thou in the way with them; refrain thy foot from their path,” as in Proverbs one, verse fifteen.
