In Psalms, chapter one hundred and forty-one, verse four, those who love the Lord should pray that God will keep them from desiring, speaking, or doing any evil, as in Matthew six, verse thirteen, and John fourteen, verses fifteen and twenty-one. Believers must shun all compromise with wicked persons and refuse to be entertained by their dainties, such as seductive pleasures, as in Romans one, verse thirty-two, “Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same but have pleasure in them that do them.”
Many people “take pleasure” in sin in the sense of taking pleasure in the immoral actions of others, as dramatized in books, cinema, videos, and television entertainment. This scripture condemns the vicarious enjoyment of lust and evil in entertainment. Today, we know the severe harm caused by the portrayal of immorality that dominates the entertainment media. Yet many approve of it and derive pleasure from it. Being entertained by watching people sin and engage in ungodly actions, even while you abstain, brings you under the same judgment as those engaging in such evil practices. Sin intensifies in any society where it meets with no inhibition from the disapproval of others.
Those, especially Christians who profess faith in Christ and who use the immoral actions of others for entertainment and enjoyment, are directly contributing to public opinion favorable to immorality and the corruption and eternal damnation of an indefinite number of other people. Such sin will be exposed and judged on the day of judgment.
