In Psalms, chapter one hundred and twenty-three, verse one, the psalm describes humble believers who look continually and expectantly to God to end the contempt and scorn towards them. It expresses the cry of those who are always watching for and desiring Christ’s return to save His people from an ungodly and hostile world. However, in our race of faith, we look to Jesus as our example of trusting God, commitment to His will, prayer, overcoming temptation and suffering, enduring loyalty to the Father, and seeking the joy of completing the work to which God has called us, our source of strength, love, grace, mercy, and help.
The theme title is Unto thee Lift I Up Mine Eyes for those who believe there is a God. Many people will encounter disturbing situations in their lives unexpectedly that cause them to look up in disbelief. However, others display this bodily action of How did I get myself into this problem? Or how am I going to get out of it? However, believers will look up to heaven and acknowledge God when these things occur. In Luke twenty-one, verse twenty-eight, “And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.”
“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble,” in Psalms forty-six, verse one. Believers lift their eyes because they know they have God who is watching and can change the circumstances in their favor. Looking to God is a sign of faith, as in Hebrews twelve, verse two. “Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.”
