Of old thou hast laid the foundation

In Psalms, chapter one hundred and two, verses twenty-five to twenty-six, these verses, quoted in Hebrews one, verses ten through twelve, imply that the experiences of trouble described by the psalmist apply to Jesus Christ as well, as in verses one through eleven of this chapter. However, verses twelve through twenty-eight speak about the Lord’s kingdom on earth, His work in creation, and His eternity. There will be a new heaven and earth. But God will not change: He remains the same.

The theme verses under God’s Years and Man’s Days section express that God has existed since the beginning. He created all things, including humans. However, the first Adam failed to follow the Lord’s instruction in the Garden of Eden, but the second Adam redeemed humanity and gave those who desire to receive Christ and know God through His Spirit. “And so it is written, the first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit,” as in First Corinthians fifteen, verses forty-five.

The foundation is His Word of God in the Old Testament and confirmation in the New Testament. After the fall of man, the Lord appeared to Abram in Genesis twelve, verse seven, “And the LORD appeared unto Abram, and said, Unto thy seed will I give this land: and there built he an altar unto the LORD, who appeared unto him.” The scripture here explicitly states the first time God “appeared to someone, though it is reasonable to assume that God had already revealed Himself to Adam and others, as in Genesis two, verses fifteen through sixteen, verse twenty-two, and Genesis three, verse eight. However, Melchizedek, King of Salem, appears to Abram in Genesis fourteen, verse eighteen, “And Melchizedek king of Salem brought forth bread and wine: and he was the priest of the most high God.” Melchizedek means King of righteousness, was both “King of Salem” and “priest of the most high God.” Melchizedek is a type or figure of royalty and an eternal priesthood of Jesus Christ.
