O God thou hast cast us off?

In Psalms, chapter sixty, verses one through twelve, David confesses that God’s people suffered a defeat in battle because God withdrew His divine help and protection when they ceased to please Him and do His will. The remedy for Israel in this tragic situation is to seek God earnestly in prayer and renew their fear of Him, as in verse four. In the same manner, we who belong to the new covenant may experience spiritual defeat in our churches, families, and personal lives because God’s spirit has been offended by our sin, our conformity to surrounding society, our pride, or our forsaking the Biblical principles of truth and righteousness.

The theme under the Prayer for National Deliverance section begins with the leaders. The personal conduct of anyone representing God starts with His people. How can a believer be a servant of God and live an ungodly lifestyle? God does not mix Himself with immoral ways and sinful lifestyles because He is holy. God gave His only Son to save the people in the world, not to join it.

Sometimes, the people of God face setbacks and tragic circumstances because their ways before God are not godly but unrighteous. The most common issue for some Christians is following how the world is living and doing instead of following the godly ways in the Bible. Believers have to be doers of the Word of God and not only read it. Sin, conforming to surrounding society, pride, and forsaking the Biblical principles of truth and righteousness will not bring us closer to God but away from Him. Isaiah fifty-five, verse six, declares, “Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near.”

The Lord is close to all those who believe in Him. However, He will not be able to help if we do not call upon Him or talk with Him daily. “But rather seek ye the kingdom of God; and all these things shall be added unto you.” If a heart is upon God and desires His presence, He will not only hear His people but meet their needs.
