In Psalms, chapter forty-one, verse one, God has concern for the weak and helpless, and He blesses those who show lovingkindness to the needy. Verses one through three expand on the principle, Matthew five, verse seven, “Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.” If we share God’s pity for those in need, we can pray with confidence that God will deliver us when we are in trouble, as in verse one, protect us from harm, as in verse two, destroy the power of Satan and our enemies, as in verse two, and give us His presence and healing when we are sick, as in verse three, Psalms seventy-two, verses two, four, twelve, Deuteronomy fifteen, verses seven to eleven, Proverbs twenty-nine, verse fourteen, Isaiah eleven, verse four, Jeremiah twenty-two, verse sixteen.
In Matthew six, verse thirty, “Wherefore, if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith?” Those who do give to the poor are those who have a belief that God will continue to care for them as they care for others. However, for the people who do not help others, how can we say we believe in God and do not trust Him to take care of us? The words in Matthew six, verse thirty, contain God’s promise to all His children in this age of trouble and uncertainty. God has promised to provide for food, clothing, and necessities. We need not worry; if we seek to let God reign in our lives, as in verse thirty-three, we can be sure He will assume full responsibility for those who wholly yielded to Him, as in Philippians four, verse six, and First Peter five, verse seven.
