In Psalms, chapter twenty-five, verse fourteen, personal knowledge of God and intimate fellowship with Him are for those who fear Him and turn away from evil. What does this mean? Proverbs three, verses five through seven, answers. “Trust in the LORD with all thine heart, and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil.”
Them that Fear Him is the title for this theme. What does it mean? Initially, someone can think, “Oh, we must be afraid of God?” Not to scare us, although He is All-powerful, Omniscient, and Omnipresent. However, it is for those who believe and receive Him, not only in salvation through His Son, Jesus Christ, but to abide by His Holy Word, which He honors above His name, as in Psalms one hundred and thirty-eight, verse two, “I will worship toward thy holy temple, and praise thy name for thy lovingkindness and for thy truth: for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name.”
To the believers who fear what the Word of God says they will do because obedience is better than sacrifice. Abiding by the Holy Scriptures is where the secret of the Lord will minister to that heart that desires to follow and abide with Him in prayer, which is the intimate fellowship. There is a song which begins:
It is no secret,
what God can do
What He has done for others,
He will do for you
With His arms wide open,
He will pardon you,
It is no secret,
What God can do.
Sin is a barrier. If the devil can get a person to do evil, especially a believer, then it will not be possible for them to fear Him, following what His Word says for us, which is His guide and the roadmap to heaven to be with Him. Words have meaning. Is it a coincidence that the word “devil,” if you remove the letter “d,” you get evil?”
