In Psalms, chapter twenty-two, verse eight, this theme verse recounts the exact words that the enemies of the Lord would say to Him as they witnessed the crucifixion, as in Matthew twenty-seven, verse forty-three. “He trusted in God; let him deliver him now if he will have him: for he said, I am the Son of God.” This situation clearly shows the fight between good and evil. The devil will use the ungodly to taunt the godly into sinning or confessing something wrong instead of right. He will use unbelievers, especially those who have something against you.
He trusted in the Lord was Jesus Christ doing the will of the Father. In Matthew twenty-six, verse thirty-nine, “And he went a little further and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.” It is doubtful that Jesus was praying to be saved from physical death, for He had resolutely set Himself to die for the sins of humanity. However, it is more probable that He was praying for deliverance from the punishment of separation from God.
Today, many ungodly see the godly ones living righteously before the Lord. These curious unbelievers monitor the believers and do not realize the enemy uses them to carry out his plans against the people of God. The ungodly sometimes openly confess that there is protection around the God-fearing ones. The enemy knows the ones who are strong in the Lord and put their trust in Him as opposed to the weaker ones who do not pray and do not yet have that deep relationship with God. Psalms twenty-eight, verse seven is the attitude of the God-fearing ones, “The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him, and I am helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and with my song will I praise him.”
