The Lord hear thee in the day of trouble

In Psalms, chapter twenty, verse one, to chapter twenty-one, verse three, are companion psalms. They are prayers to God about the warfare of His people against their enemies. Psalm twenty is a prayer before the battle. Psalm twenty-one is a praise after. For us who believe in Christ, Psalms twenty can apply to our spiritual warfare. We now struggle against unseen forces of evil, and we yearn for victory over and deliverance from Satan and demonic powers.

Psalm twenty, under A Prayer for the King section, depicts how a believer’s approach to a situation, whether personal or not, about addressing God in regards to breaking down the adversary that attempts to pull down our relationship with God and any achievements through Him who blessed us with. However, some followers of God only call when trouble lies ahead. A believer to receive that help to conquer and overcome a circumstance will require prayer of a warrior that will tear down principalities and powers as in Ephesians six, verse twelve, “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” The common prayer when trouble lies ahead for some is to beg God or have a pity party because of what they experience. Still, believers have to strengthen themselves and be ready to fight back in warfare prayer against the enemy because he does not come nicely to hinder us but to seek to devour anyone, especially those who serve and trust in God.

Psalms twenty-one is praise after the battle. This psalm is under the Splendor and Success of the King section, where the believer shall have joy and rejoice, as in verse one. There is a godly song that fits well with this verse:

The joy of the Lord is my strength,

The joy of the Lord is my strength,

The joy of the Lord is my strength,

The joy of the Lord is my strength.

If you want joy, you must shout for it,

If you want joy, you must shout for it,

If you want joy, you must shout for it,

The joy of the Lord is my strength.
