In Psalms, chapter six, verse two, during the time of physical affliction and divine chastisement, which he knows he deserves, the psalmist has lost his presence of God, as in verse four, and spiritual peace, as in verse three. He suffered for a long time and is in intense grief. His prayer is not so much that God will remove all rebuke from him as that His chastening might be mingled with mercy and not be so severe that he dies, as in Jeremiah ten, verses twenty-three through twenty-four.
This chapter is a psalm of David, who wrote this inspired by the Spirit of God, the Holy Spirit, and is one of seventy-five of the one hundred and fifty psalms in this book. However, this verse is a part of the Prayer for Mercy during trouble section. The opening verse expresses the grief of a sinner in realizing and acknowledging God for their wrongdoing on their part, a reaction to the sorrow of sin. The pardoning of healing to take place is needed not just for this situation but for the entire sinful life we have been living up to this point. This Psalm six is inspired by the Holy Spirit as an encouragement of prayer to God when speechless and unable to express how we feel about an unfortunate situation we may have encountered.
The two factors for a person that needs healing in this theme verse from this chapter are in the verses above and below. In Psalms six, verse one, “O LORD, rebuke me not in thine anger, neither chasten me in thy hot displeasure.” Then, Psalms six, verse three, “My soul is also sore vexed: but thou, O LORD, how long?” The rebuke and chasten of the spiritual being contaminated with sin gives a dirty, guilty feeling where there is nowhere to escape or hide. When Adam and Eve sinned against God they attempted to hide somewhere in the Garden of Eden.
They further went on to cover themselves but all they were doing was trying to cover their sin, their guilt, and their shame before God. When God called Adam out he even lied about why he was in hiding and probably did not realize by his reply in Genesis three, verse ten. “And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself.” The other factor is the time of recovery because most wrongdoers get affected physically. However, physical could be financial, emotional, mental, social, environmental, or occupational. Most people suffer for long periods in an area only God can fix because it could be a spiritual force behind the physical situation that the flesh cannot see or defeat, only the living God can stop and destroy it.
We need to cry out to God for this healing.
