In Second Kings, chapter fourteen, verse one, Amaziah the King began well but later fell into idolatry as in Second Chronicles, twenty-five, verse fourteen, for he did not act “with a perfect heart,” as in verse two. Amaziah had not firmly resolved to do God’s will at any cost. Essential to perseverance in the faith is an unwavering intention to remain faithful to God and His commandments until the end of our time on this earth, regardless of what may happen to us, as in Philippians three, eight through sixteen.
Amaziah began well but did not go on so. The reign of Amaziah of Judah: Length and spirit of his rule and his victory over the Edomites, which did his justice on the murderers of his father. Amaziah did all the necessary physical things to keep in line with what his father did in a physical sense. However, spiritually, he did not have the same approach. It is not enough to do which our pious predecessors did, merely to keep up the common usage, but we must do it as they did, from the same principle of faith and devotion, and with the same sincerity and resolution.
Today, family members born into a godly family are familiar with the things of God and know the word. Still, with exposure to the righteous environment, these relatives are not committed or ready to have that relationship with God and prefer to remain on the fence of being in the middle. Reading the Bible, singing songs of God, and even going to church is not enough to overcome the enemy’s devices because eventually if we are not connecting in the spirit, unbelievers will end up following the desires of the flesh. The battle of the flesh versus the inner person is real. The question is, which road are we on?
